The painting "Saint George and the Dragon" by Paolo Uccello, created between 1456 and 1460, depicts the legendary battle between Saint George and a fearsome dragon. In this vivid scene, Saint George, clad in gleaming armour, is mounted on a rearing white horse, thrusting his lance into the dragon's mouth. The dragon, a monstrous green creature with bat-like wings and sharp claws, recoils in pain. On the left, a princess stands calmly, holding the dragon by a leash, symbolizing the beast's subjugation. The backdrop includes a dark cave, from which the dragon emerged, and a dramatic sky with swirling clouds, adding to the sense of movement and tension. The composition is characterized by its use of perspective, intricate details, and a blend of fantastical and realistic elements.
