"Die wahnsinnige Kate (Mad Kate)" by Johann Heinrich Füssli, painted around 1807, is a haunting depiction of emotional turmoil and madness. The figure of Kate sits on a rocky outcrop, her wide eyes filled with fear or delusion, her body twisted in a pose of dramatic tension. The wild, stormy background and her disheveled appearance add to the unsettling atmosphere. Füssli masterfully conveys psychological disturbance through expressive brushwork and dramatic lighting, making this painting a striking exploration of the human psyche at the edge of reason.
